From 22–26 July, Curro Durbanville’s first hockey teams proudly competed in the Cape Town International Hockey Festival, hosted across venues in the southern suburbs. The tournament brought together strong local and international opposition, offering an excellent platform for both our boys’ and girls’ teams to test themselves against quality competition.

Girls’ Team Highlights: The girls delivered an outstanding campaign, progressing confidently through the pool stages with victories over Hoërskool Strand and The Settlers, before drawing with Point High School. A determined quarter-final win against Upington High School secured a semi-final berth, where they once again faced Point High School. Despite a spirited effort, they narrowly missed out on the final, ultimately finishing fourth after a closely contested bronze medal match against Hoërskool Stellenbosch.

• Emily Krige, Milla Vorster, Lily Smuts and Aziza Abrahams also added to the scoreboard.

Boys’ Team Highlights: Competing in the Elite section against some of South Africa’s strongest hockey schools, the boys showed resilience and character throughout. While results were mixed, their perseverance was rewarded with a superb victory over Worcester Gimnasium in their final fixture, ending the tournament on a high.

• Goals came from Savio Bothma, Daniel Myburgh and Caden Franken, with Franken netting the decisive winner.

Special Milestone: The festival also marked a proud achievement for Antonio Cardoso, who earned his 50th cap for Curro Durbanville.

Congratulations to all Curro’s players for representing Curro Durbanville with pride, commitment, and sportsmanship. The Wolfpack spirit was evident throughout, and Curro is immensely proud of the players’ efforts on the international stage.
