CAPE TOWN – The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in the Western Cape has implemented several operational interventions to improve service delivery and manage increased demand at the Bellville Local Office.

In recent weeks, the SASSA Bellville Office has experienced higher volumes of beneficiaries seeking assistance, particularly in relation to disability grant bookings and assessments.

The Agency acknowledges the inconvenience this may cause to clients and has introduced measures aimed at improving access to services while ensuring that beneficiaries are assisted efficiently and with dignity.

Appointment system reinstated

The Bellville Office has reverted to a structured appointment-based system to ensure orderly service delivery. Clients who cannot be assisted on the day are issued with confirmed appointments to return on a specific date, reducing the need for beneficiaries to queue overnight.

SASSA officials have been deployed to several health facilities to facilitate disability grant applications immediately following medical assessments. This intervention allows clients to complete part of the application process closer to their communities and reduces pressure on the Bellville Office.

The Agency is also expanding access points in surrounding communities. A temporary service site has been identified in Delft and is currently awaiting approval through a memorandum of understanding. Once operational, this site will provide services to beneficiaries in Delft and nearby areas.

Through collaboration with local stakeholders, SASSA has arranged additional outreach service days to accommodate clients who could not be assisted during peak demand periods.

Non-partisan stance emphasised

SASSA wishes to reiterate that the Agency operates as a non-partisan public institution mandated to administer social assistance to eligible beneficiaries in accordance with the law.

While the Agency respects the constitutional rights of individuals and organisations to express their views, SASSA strongly discourages the politicisation of social assistance services or the use of vulnerable beneficiaries to advance political agendas.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to rely on official SASSA communication channels for accurate information regarding services and operational arrangements.

Despite increased demand, the Bellville Office continues to assist hundreds of clients daily through enquiries, applications, document verification and grant processing services.

SASSA Western Cape will continue to monitor service pressures across the Metro District and implement further operational improvements where necessary to ensure that beneficiaries receive a timely and dignified service.

SASSA urges all stakeholders to allow the operational interventions currently underway to take effect, as these measures are specifically designed to address concerns recently raised regarding service access at the Bellville office.
