THEUNISSEN – A joint law enforcement roadblock on the R30 near Theunissen on Wednesday, 23 September, resulted in traffic fines being issued and arrests for alleged contraventions of the Immigration Act.

The operation was conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in partnership with several government departments and law enforcement agencies.

The integrated operation included the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Provincial Traffic, the Department of Health, Disaster Management, and the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport. The operation was led by Colonel Senobia Solomon.

The roadblock focused on several areas, including detecting the transportation of illicit goods, enforcing road safety regulations, verifying documentation and ensuring compliance with the law.

Authorities also targeted criminal activities and conducted checks aimed at identifying persons who may be in contravention of immigration legislation.

The operation resulted in fines being issued for various contraventions of the Road Traffic Act. Arrests were also made in connection with alleged contraventions of the Immigration Act.

The SAPS said the integrated operation forms part of ongoing joint interventions with law enforcement and government stakeholders to promote compliance on the province’s roads and prevent criminal activities.

Such operations also seek to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement agencies and ensure that suspected violations are identified and dealt with in accordance with the law.
