JEFFREYS BAY – The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Lieutenant General Ncata, oversaw a successful Joint Operation Prosper roadblock on the N2 near Jeffreys Bay, demonstrating the strengthened partnership between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in tackling crime and ensuring road safety on 5 April.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, Operation Prosper, a joint deployment aimed at stabilising high-risk areas and enforcing the rule of law, saw members of both SAPS and SANDF operating side by side.
The roadblock was conducted between 08:00 and 16:00 on 5 April.
“Members from the Provincial and Kouga Local Municipality Traffic Departments also formed part of the roadblock. Under the direct guidance of Lieutenant General Ncata, the joint forces stopped and checked a total of 343 motor vehicles,” said Gantana.
She said that enforcement actions resulted in 15 summonses issued and 20 cases opened for various transgressions including driving unlicensed vehicles, cellphone use while driving, and passenger overload.
“The total monetary value of fines issued is R13,800,” said Gantana.
Furthermore, she said that search warrants were executed in Arcadia in Humansdorp, resulting in one arrest for drug dealing.
Gantana said that the suspect is in custody and will appear in court soon.
Ncata commended the joint SAPS and SANDF personnel for their professionalism and visible commitment.
“Operation Prosper is exactly what its name implies, a prosperous collaboration between SAPS and the SANDF to protect the people of the Eastern Cape. These results, from traffic violations to a drug-dealing arrest, show that when we work together, criminals and lawbreakers have nowhere to hide. We will continue these joint deployments to ensure safer roads and communities,” said Ncata.
