Gqeberha community members have been invited to attend a vigil to honour the life of brutally murdered Marolien Schmidt hosted by Yokhuselo Haven on Wednesday, August 23.
The vigil will be held at 18:15 at Eddie macs @ VP, on Victoria Park Drive, South End Gqeberha. Community members are encouraged to bring a candle or a LightEntrance. And must bring a non-perishable item.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, Schmidt, was ruthlessly stabbed to death in her Richmond Hill home in the early hours of Women’s Day, August 9. She was stabbed in her back and upper body. Her neighbor’s heard screams coming from her house, and she succumbed to her injuries on arrival at the hospital.
Janse Van Rensburg said the motive for her murder is suspected to be robbery related.
There have been events hosted in her honour throughout Women’s Month.
In the same week of her murder, a candlelight vigil was held to celebrate her life.
At her alleged killer’s, Simxolile Zitshu’s first court appearance at the Gqeberha Magistrate’s case number of people came dressed in pink to stand in solidarity with Schmidt.
Her memorial was not any different, most attendees wore pink in honour of Schmidt.
Zithshu, her alleged killer, still remains in custody.
