Sundays River Valley Municipality (SRVM) has won second place in the 2022 National Arbor City Awards in the Local Municipality category.

The Mayor of SRVM Councillor Simphiwe Rune described this as a big milestone for the municipality.

“This award came at the right time when we have just launched the Clean and green SRVM Campaign, and before then we were planting trees in almost all our schools working with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment,” Rune said.

“We are very excited and aiming to win the first place next time,” he added.

Rune applauded all the teams and stakeholders who were involved in making this possible.

The Mayor has been invited to collect the prize at the launch of the Arbor Month 2022 which will be held at Mbombela on September 1, 2022.

The 2022 National Arbor Campaign will be used as the platform to highlight the Ten Million Trees Programme as announced by the Office of the President and to reward municipalities who are already making an impact in the implementation of this programme through the National Arbor City Awards Competition.
