Motherwell-born Alexander Road High School learner, Siphelele Uhuru Nase, is in desperate need of wings to fly to Ireland next month.
During the high school rugby matches that took place in Despatch in March, Nase was selected to be part of the Rhinos Tour school team that will travel to Ireland.
Nase, who started playing rugby at the age of eight, plays as a prop.
He highlighted that his parents are currently trying to secure funds so that his trip to Ireland will be possible.
Nase, who desires to play for the national rugby team, said his Walmer West Primary rugby coaches introduced him to rugby.
“I started watching rugby games at school. There was a day when I arrived home very late without informing my parents that I was starting to practise rugby.
“They were so worried, but it was the day that I told myself that I would not stop practising rugby. I am very happy that I am part of the players in the Rhinos Tour schools’ team to Ireland,” he said.
Siphelele’s father, Mangaliso Nase, said he and his wife, Ntombekhaya, were working around the clock to secure funds so their 17-year-old son would be part of the Rhinos Tour squad that will compete in Ireland next month.
“First of all, let me thank his primary school for introducing my son to rugby. I would like to thank Alexander Road High School coaches for having confidence in my son,” said Mangaliso.
“My wife and I are trying to secure some funds so that Uhuru would be able to get airfares to Ireland.
“We also humbly appeal to anyone who can help our son to fly to Ireland to contact me on 076 605 5678.”
“Let me thank the coaches, Gunter Durrbaum and Louis van Straaten, for selecting me to be part of the Rhinos Tour team,” said Nase.
“I have achieved my dream of playing in another country.”
