Areas in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality continue to grapple with water supply challenges attributed to operational constraints and a leak in one of the supply systems.
In a recent media statement by the municipality, it was noted that “most of the Western Suburbs of the city are still experiencing water disruptions.”
The statement elaborated on ongoing efforts to address the situation, stating, “The system is recovering as we have managed to resolve operational challenges that occurred over the weekend.”
Additionally, the statement highlighted specific measures being taken such as transferring 91ML from Nooitgedagt per day from Stanford Pump stations into Chelsea Reservoir.
While gradual restoration is expected throughout the day, areas in the high lying regions of the Chelsea zone may experience delays in water supply.
Furthermore, the statement acknowledged challenges in the Greenbushes zone, with the reservoir currently at 10%.
The impact extends to areas supplying St Albans and certain parts of Kwanobuhle, where water disruptions persist due to operational adjustments on the bulk water system.
In another media statement released on April 7, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki, confirmed the existence of water distribution challenges across the Metro. Mniki emphasised the involvement of water services teams on-site, actively working to restore distribution. He urged residents with access to water distribution to “drastically decrease their consumption to mitigate the impact” of the ongoing challenges.
