Various parts of Nelson Mandela Bay are currently experiencing
water disruptions following an extended electricity outage, which has affected the
Stanford Road Pump Station and has led to an inability to transfer water to the
Chelsea Reservoir as from last night.
The affected areas include areas that fall under the Chelsea Zone, KwaNobuhle 4
Zone, and the upper lying areas of the Greenbushes Zone.
As at Friday morning, 31 March the Chelsea reservoir is at 7% and
Greenbushes is 15%,
KwaNobuhle 4 is at 7%, however, the intermittent water supply in the area is due to
water shortage at the Loerie Treatment Works.
NMBM Infrastructure and Engineering Portfolio Head, Dries van der Westhuizen, said the technical team will make operational adjustments to assist the recovery of
the zones affected by disruptions.
“We have organised water tankers, some have already been dispatched in the
affected areas as an emergency measure,” he said.
Water trucks positions for now:
- Linton Grange Pick and Pay
- Hunters Spar
- Kamma Park Checkers
- Sherwood Spar
- Malabar area
- Ext 5 Barcelona.
