DAKU SPAR made a huge difference to the future of PE Sundowns FC on Friday after they made a generous donation to the team.

Daku SPAR owner, Larches Gardiner, stated that his business depended on the support of the community to be viable.

Gardiner said, “The support from the community to us is immensely important.

“Furthermore, business entities should make a difference to the communities which they serve. We are the people’s supermarket which ploughs back to the community.

“In April this year, we had a fun run in which the club with most participants would get the brand new kit. PE Sundowns FC heeded the call as they had the most participants. Today, we are fulfilling that promise.

“Unilever manager, Clement Timothy, gave us this kit so that we should donate it to PE Sundowns.”

Sundowns chairperson, Mzwabantu Futshane, stated that his club was over the moon.

“When Daku SPAR told us we had the most entrants in their fun run, we were so excited. The club did not have enough financial resources. We run the club from our own pockets.

“So, Daku SPAR has helped us a lot. This is a memorable moment to our players. I would like to thank Daku SPAR for hosting programmes in which our community benefits.

“I would also like to thank Timothy for being instrumental in making the donation possible,” said Futshane. Gardiner stated that they were fully aware that Sundowns was one of the clubs which had no financial muscle and they wanted to help them.
