GQEBERHA – The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium has sustained damage following the severe weather conditions that have battered Gqeberha in recent days.

According to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, engineers have assessed the affected area and confirmed that the structure appears to remain sound despite the high winds and heavy rainfall experienced across the metro.

The municiaplity said the damage has been limited to one canvas leaf and a cable section on the northern side of the stadium.

“The affected area appears to be structurally sound, with the damage limited to one canvas leaf and cable section on the North side of the stadium,” the municipality said.

While investigations are ongoing, the municipality has restricted access to the affected area for all non-authorised personnel to ensure public safety.

Gqeberha and surrounding areas have recently experienced harsh weather conditions, including damaging winds and persistent rainfall, which have caused disruptions across parts of the city.

As per reports circulating on social media, several trucks have reportedly overturned on major routes including the N2 and M17 due to the strong winds.

Residents have also shared reports and images of fallen trees obstructing roads in different parts of the metro.
