HELENVALE United B collected silverware after they defeated Saints FC 1–0 during Saints FC seven-a-side Women’s Day Junior Tournament at the Saints Grounds in Gelvandale on August 9.

Helenvale United u/17 won the John Nance Junior Tournament during the winter school holidays.

Helenvale u/17 was split into two teams. In the first semi-finals, Helenvale United A took on Helenvale United B, who secured a hard-fought 3–2 win which saw them advance to the finals.

In the last semi-final, hosts Saints FC faced the tough Bloom Callies side, but the hosts were triumphant in their narrow-margin 1–0 victory that helped to book them a berth in the finals.

In the finals, Helenvale United B became Saints FC seven-a-side Women’s Day Junior Tournament champions after they earned a 1–0 hard-win over Saints.

Helenvale United received the gold medals for their hard labour while Saints went home with silver medals. Helenvale United were also voted the best team of the tournament. The player of the tournament award trophy went to Helenvale player, Juan Dickanson, after he played an instrumental role in his side’s victory.

Credit should be given to Helenvale coaches, Jason Williams and Conrad “Carter” Charles, after guiding their teams to where they are today.

“These two coaches expose our youngsters to the tournaments to enjoy themselves. They have instilled discipline to our players and we are grateful to have these two young coaches in our team,” said Helenvale manager, Neil Plaatjies.
