The Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj. Gen. Vuyisile Ncata, commended the Gqeberha Border Policing members who went beyond the call of duty by demonstrating dedication to public health and safety.
Their actions uncovered an environmental and health issue while following up on information of possible suspicious activity at a factory in Korsten.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, on Tuesday, July 18, at approximately 11:00, Gqeberha Border Policing members entered a biscuit manufacturing company.
“On entering the premises, the owner was very cooperative and allowed police to search the premises. Although nothing illegal was found to be taking place on the premises, police were concerned about the unhygienic and health conditions in the way the factory was working.
“Immediately, the Environmental Health Department and the brand agents were contacted.
Maj Gen Ncata commended the Border Policing members who took decisive action to address the unhygienic conditions.
“The members protected the workers’ health within the factory and safeguarded the surrounding environment and our broader society from potential hazards. Their actions serve as a reminder of the invaluable role that police play in maintaining the safety and welfare of our society,” said Ncata.
