For one local woman, Mother’s Day is about far more than flowers and gifts. It is about recognising the unwavering love, sacrifice and strength mothers show every single day of the year.

Belinda Neff’s daughter, Elvina Neff shared a heartfelt tribute describing her mother as “a woman of strength, independent, loving and very understanding”, saying mothers deserve to be celebrated daily and not only on Mother’s Day.

“What makes my mom one in a million? There is a lot of things I can mention, but overall, my mom is someone whom I can always lean on,” she said.

She described her mother as kind hearted, supportive and a mentor who listens without judgement while always guiding her in the right direction.

“The unconditional love she has, not only for her kids and family but for strangers as well, is something truly special,” she said.

Belinda, who works as an operator at Benteler Automotive, was praised for her strong work ethic and ability to balance both work and family life.

“I can truly say I have never seen a woman work as hard as my mom while balancing her personal life, being there for us and doing duties without asking for help at times,” her daughter said.

Raised in a Christian household where faith played a central role, she said her parents taught her the importance of believing that “with Christ all things are possible”.

This year’s Mother’s Day celebrations hold even greater meaning for the family as Belinda and her husband celebrate their 23rd wedding anniversary on the same day, while her husband’s birthday follows on Monday, May 11.

“It is rare that we as a family celebrate double or combined celebrations. To me this represents a milestone of pure love, resilience and shows that my parents set a good example of a lasting partnership and what marriage is about,” she said.

The daughter, who is a recent graduate, single mother to a seven-year-old son and currently unemployed, said recent months had been difficult and emotionally challenging.

“A few weeks back we celebrated my graduation ceremony and my parents gave me their best,” she said.

She admitted she felt discouraged before entering the Mother’s Day competition as she did not have the financial means to spoil her parents.

“I had no amount of gifts to give them, but just a meaningful speech to thank them for everything and showing love,” she said.

After receiving a call informing her that she had won a Mother’s Day experience prize, she said she was overwhelmed with gratitude.

“When I saw who it was from, my only words were: ‘Thank You Lord!’”

She ended her tribute with a message of appreciation to both her parents.

“Thank you for your understanding, love, patience and support. We love and appreciate you always. You truly deserve this amazing gift.”
