A passerby made a gruesome discovery yesterday morning, July 11, when he stumbled upon the bodies of two people in the bushes close to the N2 in Greenbushes.

The identity of the
deceased male was established through fingerprints as 28-year-old Atenkosi Matroos. His next-of-kin has been traced. He was living in Kuyga.

The cause of death was due to strangulation. According to police, the identity of the deceased woman is still unknown at this stage.

A passerby made a gruesome discovery yesterday morning, July 11, when he stumbled upon the bodies of two people in the bushes close to the N2 in Greenbushes.

The discovery was made at approximately 09:00.

When the police arrived at the scene, the body of an unknown man was found sitting against a tree with his neck tied to the tree. A second body, that of a woman, was found about five meters away. She was lying face down on the ground.

Police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said that both bodies were in the early stages of decomposition.

“They are between the ages of 20-35 years old. A postmortem will be conducted on both deceased persons to determine the exact cause of deaths. Police are investigating two cases of murder,” she said. 

Anyone that can assist in identifying the deceased, may know their next-of-kin or can shed light on the circumstances of their deaths, is asked to contact D/Lt. Col.
