A 33-year-old man has handed himself over to the SAPS Swartkops for the alleged murder of his ex-girlfriend’s six-year-old son, Thabang Klaas.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the boy’s body was discovered on a footpath on Monday, July 25 at 13:00.
“It is alleged that on Friday, July 22, the suspect fetched the child from his grandmother’s house in New Brighton and thereafter strangled him in the bushes between Mathys Grounds and Wells Estate in Swartkops,” Naidu said.
“The suspect was detained on a charge of murder and motive for the murder is suspected to be revenge against the ex-girlfriend,” Naidu added.
Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mene expressed her condolences to the family of the deceased child and added that children need to be protected from abuse and violence at the hands of those to whom they look up to and emulate as role models.
“The police urge the community to report any suspected child abuse or neglect. Children are trusting of those whom they know thereby making them vulnerable to child abusers and murderers,” Mene said.
The suspect is due to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, July 27.
