Company employees nabbed for theft of food worth R400 000

Two suspects, one a company driver, were arrested by SAPS Mount Road detectives for the alleged theft of a company truck loaded with food to the value of R400 000.

According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that on Tuesday, July 4 at about 02:00, the driver Xolisa Matshotyana (33), was off duty when he went to the company warehouse in Deal Party and drove off with a loaded truck.

She said the truck’s contents were offloaded at a premises in Rise Road in Deal Party and driven back to the warehouse.

“On Thursday, July 6, after viewing the dashboard camera, the company established the drop-off location and approached police for assistance.

“Police managed to recover goods to the value of R58 000, which the complainant positively identified,” Naidu said.

On Sunday, July 9 Matshotyana was arrested at his house in Kwazakhele and detained for theft of the motor vehicle and theft from a motor vehicle.

“The warehouse manager, Mninawe Mayekiso, aged 40, was arrested on Wednesday, July 12 and charged for theft,” added Naidu.

Both suspects appeared in court, and the case is remanded to Monday, August 28.
