The northern areas of Gqeberha might often be burdened with crime and poverty, but the Believe and Achieve Non-Profit Organisation is set on uplifting the community, and exposing all the good that happens.

One way they have done this recently is through a father and daughter dance aimed at encouraging fathers to have healthy relationships with their daughters.

“Fathers, and father figures, are important in the lives of young girls. There are so many ills that can be avoided just by fathers having a proper relationship with their daughters,” vice-chairperson Cowan Johnson said in a previous PE Express story.

After months of planning and raising awareness, the event held at the West End Community Centre was a success.

Johnson said,

The team made sure to do it this year because we saw the need in the community, of children longing to spend time with their fathers.

“This has been our first father and daughter dance, and we are incredibly proud of the turnout. We are planning to hold this event every year from now onwards. The attendance really proved how much something like this is needed in our communities and how we need more fathers to have a relationship with their daughters and be part of their lives.

Believe and Achieve NPO’s first ever father and daughter dance was a huge success, and it is now going to be an annual event.

It is one thing to be present, and it is another to have a relationship. As a team we believe all who attended had a blessed night; it was a huge success. We want to thank Believe and Achieve members for making this possible,” Johnson concluded.

“It was a really amazing time spent with my eldest daughter,” said Deolin Lindoor, one of the fathers who took part in the dance with his daughter.

“This is a great initiative from Believe and Achieve NPO; something new and different, but great to have been part of such an event. I would not hesitate to support it again.

“To all the organisers and associates, I say much respect and may God bless you. Even the food was amazing.

“This event is something needed within our communities, to show the importance of our daughters. Let’s support initiatives such as this; it’s a very good way to show our daughters what they mean to us as dads; let us lead by example as a community from the northern areas.”
