It was a joyful day at Vulumzi Secondary School when they hosted their annual function recently to honour outstanding educators and learners who showed excellence during the 2023 end-of-year examinations.

Vulumzi deputy principal, Nono Quza, highlighted that they had decided to honour their educators whose learners acquired the best results from Grade 8 to 12.

Quza said, 

As a way of setting our standards high during year-end examinations, we felt that starting from Grade 8 to 12 we should motivate our educators and their learners with best results during November 2023 examinations. Our learners and educators produced outstanding performances during November 2023 examinations.

According to Quza, the Vulumzi matric 2023 class achieved 86.6 percent during the last year-end results.

EnviroServ Community Liaison officer, Zingisa Mabangula, said that their company had formed a partnership with Vulumzi Secondary School as a way of ploughing back into the community. “The educators of Vulumzi execute their duties with distinction at all times. We are honoured to be associated with this institution that is a beacon of hope to the community of Motherwell. All in all, we are going to keep on supporting Vulumzi Secondary School,” said Mabangula.

The award winners were:

  • Grade 8 top achievers: Iminam Zumani, Sesona Sokutu, Memelela Matiwane, Siyamthanda Mukana and Nelisa Nelani (overall top achiever)
  • Grade 9 top achievers: Aseza Relesi, Tafunda Chikuvara, Blessing Chitu, and Othandwayo Mapoloba (overall top achiever)
  • Grade 10 top achievers: Lisakhanya Vonco, Sinovuyo Tofile, Asalinda Billy, Buchumile Ntsele, Oliliso Ntsewuza and Sibabalwe Gwebushe
  • Grade 11 top achievers: Sisipho Mqulwana, Amahle Cakuma, Tshepang Gwija, and Hlomla Mangcotywa (overall top achiever)
  • Grade 12 top achievers: Unabantu Ntozini, Chwayita Tsotsi, Luvuyo Ndunana, Yonela Doyi, Esona Gwinta, Ayabulela Bonga, Sihle Ceba, Philasande Njengele, Angel Botha, Thulani Dokolwana, Anathi Donkrag, Kalunga Masewu, Alizwa Koboka and Zipho Jalixhanti
  • Grade 12 Educators with the most understanding learner results in November 2023 results: Lubabalo Mangqongoza (Geography 83%), Nomathamsanqa Njibana (Economics 94.1%), Mzikayise Koboka (History 98%), Nono Quza (Life Sciences 98.3%), Noluthanda Limba (IsiXhosa HL 100%), Avela Zakumani (English FAL 100%), Zolani Mantyontya (Tourism 100%), Beauty Tose (Agricultural Science 100%) and Nosipho Bola (Life Orientation 100%) – both best quality results in their subjects they teach in five successive years
  • Department with best results: Language
