GQEBERHA – It was a special day when Nelson Mandela Bay Schools’ annual volleyball awards function was held at Lawson Brown High School on Thursday, 9 April to honour the players for their outstanding performances during the previous year’s regional volleyball season.
According to Nelson Mandela Bay Schools’ volleyball coordinator, Siyanda Macozoma, the primary aim of the function was to motivate the players for their excellent performances over the past season and to draw more schools to the game of volleyball.
Macozoma highlighted that Coselelani Secondary School from Motherwell performed wonderfully on the volleyball courts last season.
“I am delighted that schools showed keen interest in the game of volleyball. That, on its own, shows that volleyball as a sport is gradually becoming popular. Today, Coselelani Secondary is the reigning champion.

“I would like to congratulate this school from Motherwell because today they and other schools are reaping the fruits of their hard work,” said Macozoma.
“I am a coach because of the children and their passion for the sport itself. There is no other feeling quite like helping young athletes further develop their natural persistence, unwavering dedication, resilience, work ethic, leadership skills and respect for others โ not only in competitions but also in life,” Macozoma added.
“I wish schools would refrain from saying that they have no funds when league matches are scheduled. However, we are more than ready to help their pupils take part in volleyball,” concluded Macozoma.
Coselelani Secondary’s principal, Langa Tshangana, said that his coach Bukelwa Williams and her volleyball team worked very hard.
“Williams and her team worked extremely hard. They have raised our school’s flag. I would like to express our gratitude to Macozoma for introducing our school to volleyball, and her efforts cannot go unnoticed,” said Tshangana.
