GQEBERHA – Merryvale School for learners with special educational needs concluded Autism Awareness Month on a joyful note with a vibrant sensory fun day designed for learners to explore and celebrate in a supportive environment.
The day, which was celebrated on 30 April, was filled with excitement as learners moved between a variety of carefully structured sensory activities tailored to meet diverse needs and preferences.
One of the standout attractions was the vibehouse, where music and dynamic lighting created an energetic and immersive space for enjoyment.
A jumping castle proved to be another popular feature, giving learners a safe and enjoyable outlet to release energy. Water-play activities added to the sense of fun, while multiple sensory stations encouraged hands-on exploration, creativity, and interaction in ways suited to individual sensory requirements.

Educators and organisers emphasised that the event was more than just a celebration. It served as a reminder of the importance of inclusive learning environments where every learner feels valued, understood and supported. The activities reflected the school’s ongoing commitment to embracing neurodiversity and meeting the unique needs of each learner.
Throughout the day, laughter, engagement and smiles underscored the success of the initiative, making it a memorable occasion for all involved.
The sensory fun day provided a fitting conclusion to Autism Awareness Month โ highlighting individuality, promoting acceptance, and ensuring that every learner had the opportunity to experience joy in a meaningful and accessible way.
