The court case against an aunt who allegedly kidnapped and murdered her niece with the help of her boyfriend was postponed again today.
Christine Prins (25) and Teboho Ramanki (31) briefly appeared before the Motherwell Magistrates’ Court today, 12 May, for the alleged kidnapping and murder of a 6-year-old girl, Abigail Prins.
The court heard that the pair appeared for their formal bail application and for Judicare to be assigned for Ramanki, as they cannot be represented by the same party due to a conflict of interest. The Legal Aid representative declined to share what the conflict of interest was.
The matter was postponed for seven days to allow time for an appointed Judicare representative to be made available.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said that the pair were found in Makhanda by the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Gqeberha and were transferred to Gqeberha for further investigation.
The charge sheet alleges that between 23 March and 10 April 2026, in the Motherwell area, the accused unlawfully and intentionally killed Abigail by assaulting her multiple times and then burying her body at St George’s Beach.
The State further alleges that both accused acted together with a common purpose in committing this crime.
The matter was remanded until 21 May for their formal bail application. Both accused remain in custody.
