GQEBERHA – Residents and motorists across Nelson Mandela Bay have been urged to remain cautious on the roads as heavy rainfall is expected to affect the metro on Tuesday, 12 May.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality issued a road safety advisory warning that wet weather conditions could create hazardous driving conditions, including reduced visibility, slippery roads, flooding in low-lying areas and potholes concealed beneath puddles.
Motorists have been encouraged to reduce speed, maintain a safe following distance and exercise caution when approaching flooded roads and standing water.
Drivers are also advised to switch on their headlights during poor visibility and allow extra travel time.
The Municipality further appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary travel where possible and to remain patient and considerate while travelling during the adverse weather conditions.
Emergency and municipal services remain on standby to respond to incidents linked to the severe weather.
Residents can report emergencies or service disruptions through the following contact numbers:
- NMBM Emergency Response: 041 585 1555
- NMBM Safety and Security WhatsApp Line: 079 490 0480
- SAPS Emergency Services: 10111
- NMBM Electricity and Energy: 041 506 5595
The Municipality said the safety of residents remains a top priority as the metro prepares for further rainfall.
