The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has announced that devastating fires which swept through parts of the Metro are now under control, following intensive efforts by local emergency services.
Fire and Emergency Services deployed numerous firefighting vehicles and specialist teams to combat the blazes, which have been ravaging parts of the municipality throughout the week.
Whilst the immediate threat has been contained, crews remain on the ground actively dampening smouldering hotspots to prevent re-ignition.

Emergency services are maintaining full deployment across affected areas, with continuous monitoring to ensure public safety. Despite the improved situation, authorities stress that the threat has not entirely passed.
Local communities have been advised to stay alert and immediately report any signs of flare-ups, smoke, or fire activity to emergency services. The municipality has assured residents that teams will remain on high alert until the area is declared completely safe.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has thanked residents for their cooperation and patience during the emergency, promising continued updates should the situation change.
For fire-related emergencies, residents should contact the Fire & Emergency Services on 041 585 1555.
