SAPS Swartkops detectives are investigating an incident at a steel manufacturing company in Coega on Tuesday, May 14, where two workers died in a furnace and two others sustained burn wounds.
According to police spokesperson, Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 13:00 on Tuesday, police and other emergency services responded to a complaint at a steel manufacturing company in Coega where two males aged 39 and 48 died in a furnace at the plant.
“Two other co-workers aged 38 and 49 years old sustained burn wounds and were taken to hospital for treatment,” said Janse Van Rensburg.
At this stage it is unclear what transpired, and an inquest was opened for further investigation.
The names of the deceased will only be released once the next of kin has been informed.
