Motorist stabbed to death in broad daylight at Stanford Road Bridge

A motorist (51) was stabbed to death on the Stanford Road bridge/N2 offramp on Sunday afternoon (July 28), in broad daylight, after he chased someone who allegedly robbed him of his cellphone.

According to Captain Andre Beetge of the South African Police Services, the incident occurred at approximately 14:00 when the victim stopped his vehicle at the traffic lights.

An unknown male suspect then grabbed the victim’s cellphone through the open driver’s side window and made a run for it. The victim chased after the suspect on foot, who then turned and stabbed him in the neck.

The suspect fled the scene, leaving the victim to succumb to his injuries.

“The victim tragically passed away at the scene,” Captain Beetge confirmed.

“A murder case has been opened, and our team at SAPS Gelvandale is working tirelessly to investigate and bring the perpetrator to justice.”

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
