KwaDwesi Hit and Run: Police investigate fatal accident

Jeffreys Bay businessman Pirow Viljoen (83) has died following a motor vehicle accident on 23 May, with charges now set to be upgraded to culpable homicide.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) can confirm that a 21-year-old male passed away after being struck by an unknown vehicle in a hit-and-run incident this morning, 5 August at approximately 07:15 on the R75 in front of the Ziyabuya Shopping Centre, KwaDwesi.

The victim was lying on the R75 traffic island when two police officers arrived on the scene at 07:25. According to SAPS spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, the victim was riding a bicycle when the incident happened. “The motorist and now suspect did not stop at the accident scene but drove off. The victim cannot be named until his next of kin have been notified.”

He added, “A culpable homicide case has been opened and is being investigated by SAPS KwaDwesi.”
