Two suspects are under police guard in the hospital after being shot and wounded during a home invasion on Tuesday evening, August 13, in Richmond Hill.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, at approximately 20:40, on Lutman Street, Richmond Hill, the complainant (73) was sleeping when he heard a noise that woke him up.

She said the complainant had his firearm with him when he went to investigate.

“He noticed three suspects inside the house in the passage approaching him.

“The complainant fired two shots at the suspects; two suspects were wounded, and one suspect fled from the scene.

“Due to the quick response of a private security company and Metro police, the two wounded suspects, aged 31 and 37, were apprehended,” she reported.

“It was later established that the suspects gained entrance to the property by removing a window in the front bedroom.

“Nothing was taken from the property, and the complainant did not sustain any injuries during the incident,” she added.

She revealed that both suspects are currently under police guard in the hospital, where they are being treated for the gunshot wounds.

“SAPS Humewood is investigating a case of housebreaking and attempted murder.”
