GQEBERHA – A business robbery case has been opened after an incident happened yesterday, 9 April, at a coffee shop in Second Avenue, in Walmer.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the incident happened at about 11:35.

She said according to reports, the complainant was working on his laptop inside the establishment when three unknown males entered the premises.

She revealed that the suspects were armed with firearms and allegedly instructed patrons to lie down and fearing for their safety, those inside complied.

“The suspects, described as wearing construction clothing and balaclavas, proceeded to rob patrons of their belongings. The complainant was robbed of a laptop (MacBook Air 2023). A second victim, an adult female who was also working on her laptop at the time, was robbed of her MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021 model). It is further reported that additional laptops belonging to other customers were taken during the incident,” she added.

She further added that after the robbery, the suspects fled the scene in a Hyundai i10.

She noted that no injuries were reported during the incident.

“Walmer SAPS has launched an investigation into the matter. Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist in the investigation to contact their nearest police station or SAPS Walmer on 082 769 1977 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. All information will be treated with strict confidentiality. Investigations are ongoing.”
