THE Zwide area in Gqeberha recently played host to a Vuka Mzala Inspirational Session on behalf of the Dreams Kept Alive NPO.
The event was held at Enkuselweni Child and Youth Centre, which marks a year of hosting these inspirational sessions.
“The aim of the Vuka Mzala Inspirational Sessions is to equip the youth to effectively deal with Mental Health issues and social challenges, and inform them about the importance of small businesses to eradicate poverty, as well as health demands,” said the founder and co-ordinator of this event, Monwabisi Galada.
The theme of the Vuka Mzala Inspirational Session, titled Young Men and Women, was about accepting who I am.
“Accepting myself as I am with my imperfections and getting better,” he added.
As peer pressure affects so many in the community, this event aims at discussing life changes while challenging individuals to do more as they discover who they are, and strive to live a significant and purposeful life.
The speakers shared their wisdom with the youth from the centre, as well as some guests from KwaMagxaki High School who also attended the event.
One of the speakers, Loyiso Gogela, a young creative from Zwide, was invited to inspire the youth in attendance by sharing his personal journey.
His talk emphasised the importance of making decisions that impact both themselves as well as the community, while considering one’s background and taking accountability for their actions.
Nolukhanyo Madlingozi, another speaker, further expanded on this topic by encouraging young people to invest their time in meaningful activities. She also mentioned the value of reading and participation in sporting activities as ways to improve their chances of success and personal growth.
Galada celebrated the efforts of the speakers throughout the session as they showed their care and awareness of the need to create time to give back to the youth and interact with them.
“I believe that if young people can honestly wrestle with the question, ‘as you live today what else can you do to better yourself and your future?’ we can have a better atmosphere in our communities as it charges young and old people to introspect themselves and take action,” Galada said.
