THE Mount Road police station recently announced their new junior station management, which forms part of the Junior National Commissioner Project.
The initiative forms part of the South African Police Service’s Youth Crime Prevention Project, which aims at providing the youth with opportunities to contribute towards ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment in schools.
During the selection process, eight learners from various schools in the policing precinct were nominated.
They followed a stringent interviewing process to narrow the total down to four learners.
The successful learners are, Junior Station Commander, Liyema Helesi from Cillié High School, Junior Head VISPOL Commander, Herschelle van Niekerk, also from Cillié High School, Junior Head Detective Nezaan Swartz from Linkside High School and Junior Head Support Service, Unabantu Gcule from Linkside High School.
The Station Commander, Brigadier Marius Groenewald, congratulated the appointed junior management team and welcomed them to the station.
He added that, together, crime issues relating to youth would be addressed.
“We need the young inspiration and knowledge to assist us in understanding the youth of today and how we can address youth problems in a professional way,” Groenewald said.
