IT was all smiles and joy on the faces of the players, officials, parents and community members of Motherwell NU 10 when Coke Supermarket donated sponsored kits and sports equipment to Channel Porto FC last week Wednesday.
Local motivational speaker Koko Zaka, KwaZakhele Police Station Crime Prevention Unit member Melikhaya Zici, local pastors and Nophelo Buzo (a parent) motivated the players to take sport and education very seriously and to refrain from associating themselves with bad influences.
Coke Supermarket manager, Podgy Moodie, stated that they decided to be part of the community development as their business depended on the community support.
“It is a great pleasure for us, at Coke Supermarket, to be part of the community because the community supports us and we need to support them back,” said Moodie.
“This is going to put more pressure on other people in the area to do something for other people who are less fortunate.
“We have decided to come to the rescue of the club because we have noticed that lots of kids hang around and abuse alcohol and drugs after school because they have nothing to do.
“We bought a complete soccer outfit and training equipment for basic training that coaches would use. We bought the expensive equipment and kit that is durable.
“This is just a beginning because we have future plans for Porto,” Moodie said.
Channel Porto official, Sifundo Boltina, stated that the kit and equipment was going to motivate their club. “Coke Supermarket owner, Philasande Jakavula, and Podgy Moodie, as well as the rest of their management, have made a huge difference to our club,” Boltina said.
“We are really happy because our kids were struggling. We are so thankful.”
