A 43-year-old man was murdered at his house in William Street, Cotswold this morning (Tuesday) allegedly by a man that he was afraid of.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said that the victim, Bobby Matthews, arrived at his house at approximately 10:00 this morning, accompanied by his brother. It is alleged that Matthews requested his brother to wait for him because he feared the suspect.
“As Matthews walked to the entrance to his residence, he was approached by the suspect. There was an argument between the two men and the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a knife. He was stabbed once in the neck, after which the suspect ran away,” Janse van Rensburg explained.
“The injured Matthews was rushed to hospital by his brother but succumbed to his injuries,” she added.
“While members from Mount Road police station were busy attending to the complaint, they received information that the suspect was standing at a nearby shop. The 25-year-old suspect was apprehended and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court during the week on a charge of murder.”
