Elisabeth Barry (left) and Vanessa Lessing secured their places in the SA equipped team for the World Equipped Masters Powerlifting Championships in October 2021, which will be held in Potchefstroom.


EASTERN Cape powerlifters did exceptionally well over the weekend of March 26 to 27, at the SA Equipped Powerlifting Championships, held in Fochville, Gauteng.

The results were:

. Elisabeth Barry, in the U/52kg master 1 division, with a squat of 105kg, 42.5kg bench press and 110kg deadlift.

. Vanessa Lessing, in the U/69kg master 1 division set two new SA records in the bench press (80kg) and deadlift (152.5kg).

. Barry and Lessing secured their places in the SA equipped team for the World Equipped Masters Powerlifting Championships, in October 2021, in Potchefstroom.

. Charnleigh Kotze achieved a 140kg squat and a 70kg bench press in the women’s sub-junior U/69kg division.

. Eugene Sadie set a new South African deadlift record of 283kg in the U/83kg open division.

. André Ludik received the best master 3 men award, and achieved a 142.5kg squat, 95kg bench press and a 170kg deadlift in the U/105kg division.
