President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that indications show
South Africa is entering a third wave of COVID-19 infections.

South Africa is entering the third wave of COVID-19 infections.

Ramaphosa was speaking virtually at the ANC Northern Cape provincial
elective conference at the weekend when he made this statement.

He added that as the COVID-19 infections keep rising, we
must do everything in our power to mitigate against this impact.

“We are once again going to have to remind South Africans to
remain vigilant and protect themselves and each other,” Ramaphosa said.

He added that the Northern Cape has unfortunately seen the highest
per capita number of COVID infections in the country at nearly 34 per 100, with
the Free State in second position with almost 15 per 100.

According to the latest statistics as released by the NICD last
night, Saturday, May 29, the cumulative number of cases identified in the
country stands at 1 659 070 with 4 515 new
cases reported in the past 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, 70 deaths have been reported:
Eastern Cape (0) Free State (3) Gauteng (26) KwaZulu-Natal (3) Limpopo (0)
Mpumalanga (4) North West (0) Northern Cape (24) and Western Cape (10) which
brings the total to 56 363 deaths.
