Thieves cripple Kimberley SPCA after stealing dog trailers’ wheels

The Kimberley SPCA is “frustrated and angry” after the wheels of both its dog trailers were stolen on Sunday night.

“Those trailers are our lifelines. Without them, our ability to respond to emergencies, rescue animals in distress, and transport them to safety is severely compromised,” said Alet Steyn, chairperson of the Kimberley SPCA.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult to protect and assist the vulnerable animals in our community when our own facility is targeted by criminals who think they can just come and take what does not belong to them.”

Steyn said what is even more frustrating is that somewhere, someone knows who did this. “Somewhere, someone has been offered these wheels for sale.”

The matter has been reported to the South African Police Service, who visited the premises this morning.

This charity organisation appeals to the community to speak up if any suspicious activity was seen around the SPCA on Sunday night, or if any information was heard on someone trying to sell trailer wheels.

  • Tyres and rims that were stolen are the two wheels of the four berth dog trailer (with four-stud rims and 13″ tyres), as well as the two wheels and the spare wheel of the eight berth dog trailer (with five-stud rims and 13″ tyres).

Community urged to assist

“If you have any information, no matter how small it may seem, please call us immediately on 082 376 7679 or send us a private message. Your identity can remain completely confidential.”

Businesses and individuals who are able to assist in any way, such as the replacing of the wheels, donating security equipment, or helping the SPCA to get the trailers back on the road, can reach out to the office or dial 082 376 7679.
