The Junior Boks turned Wynberg Boys’ High School into a try-scoring fortress on Tuesday afternoon, dismantling Fiji 82-25 in a performance that sent an ominous warning to their Junior World Championship rivals.
Luan Giliomee marked his return to the starting XV with a sublime hat-trick, while captain-on-the-day Vusi Moyo proved metronomic from the tee, slotting 11 conversions in another clinical display from Kevin Foote’s charges.

Fresh off their 97-0 annihilation of Chile last week, the SA U20s picked up where they left off, racing into a commanding 56-11 half-time lead that showcased their lethal combination of forward brutality and backline brilliance.
First-half masterclass sets tone
The Junior Boks’ set-piece dominance laid the foundation for their scoring spree, with lineout drives proving particularly effective against the Fijian resistance. Gert Kemp capitalised twice from rolling mauls, whilst Quintin Potgieter added another from the same platform as the hosts established their authority.
Giliomee opened his account in the second minute and grabbed his second on the stroke of half-time, demonstrating the clinical edge that has become a hallmark of this squad. Christian Vorster and Luke Cannon also crossed before the break, as the Junior Boks held a 28-5 advantage after just 21 minutes.
JD Hattingh’s 37th-minute maul try was the eighth converted score of a relentless first-half display, with Moyo maintaining his perfect record from the tee to give the hosts a 45-point cushion at the interval.
Fiji fight back before Junior Boks restore order
Credit to the Pacific Islanders, who emerged from the sheds with renewed purpose and tested the Junior Boks’ defensive resolve. The visitors won consecutive scrum penalties and applied sustained pressure, though their execution in the red zone ultimately cost them precious points.
Giliomee completed his hat-trick early in the second stanza, Moyo’s only miss of the afternoon following, before Bongani Dlamini crashed over 15 minutes after the restart following some scintillating phase play.
Luan Olivier extended the advantage with another maul try, Moyo’s 10th conversion bringing up the three-quarter century as the Junior Boks reasserted their dominance.
Fiji refused to wilt, earning a penalty try for a maul infringement that saw Altus Rabe yellow-carded. However, a Fijian red card for a dangerous tackle restored parity, and from the subsequent penalty, Jaythen Orange dotted down for the hosts’ 12th try.
Apete Rokosuka grabbed a consolation score in the dying moments, but the damage had long been done in a match where Fiji can take heart from their second-half effort despite the comprehensive defeat.
Earlier in the day, Georgia dispatched a resurgent Chile 59-26 in the tournament’s curtain-raiser, setting up a mouth-watering clash with the Junior Boks on Saturday.
The U20 International Series concludes at Markötter Stadium in Stellenbosch on Saturday, with the Junior Boks facing Georgia at 14h30, a genuine test before they head to the Junior World Championship, which kicks off in a month’s time.
Fiji and Chile will square off at 16h30 in the tournament finale, with both sides seeking to end their campaigns on a positive note.
