PAARL – A blaze that erupted around midday on Saturday, 20 December, has destroyed the Cucina Di Giovanni restaurant and the first wing of accommodation facilities at Laborie Wine Estate.
The Drakenstein Municipality confirmed in a press release that whilst the fire destroyed these structures, the Manor House and second accommodation wing are now out of danger.
“Wind conditions remain strong, but all teams are fully alert and monitoring the area closely to ensure that everything stays under control,” the municipality stated.
Multiple fire services have responded to the emergency, with firefighters from Stellenbosch Municipality, Cape Winelands District Municipality, FPA, and DFW Fire & Rescue NPC working collaboratively to contain the blaze.
Fire crews are concentrating their efforts on preventing the flames from spreading to other structures on the property.

The municipality has appealed to the public to keep the main road clear to allow emergency vehicles unimpeded access to the scene.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and no injuries have been reported at this stage.
