Detectives investigate fresh claims about Joshlin Smith’s whereabouts


SALDANHA BAY – Detectives of the SAPS are currently in Saldanha Bay investigating recent claims about the missing Joshlin Smith. A community member has provided new information regarding her alleged whereabouts. Joshlin disappeared in February 2024, when she was six years old.

Although no tangible evidence linked to Joshlin’s disappearance has previously been found, the SAPS reiterates that all information received is treated seriously and is thoroughly investigated.

“The investigation into Joshlin Smith’s disappearance remains open and active, despite the sentencing of three accused in May 2025,” said Colonel André Traut, police spokesperson in the Western Cape.

Since her disappearance, the SAPS has pursued numerous leads provided by the public relating to her whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding her case. All information is rigorously assessed for credibility and evidential value, but none has yielded a breakthrough.

“Detectives continue to follow up on all information, with extensive efforts undertaken both locally and abroad,” said Traut, commenting that the SAPS continued to welcome any new information, and giving the public the assurance that all leads would be thoroughly investigated.
