The police in Botshabelo are investigating a series of cases that culminated in the murder of an unknown foreign man in what appeared to be an act of mob justice in Botshabelo’s Section W on Saturday 11 April.
Sgt Mahlomola Kareli, provincial police spokesperson, said investigations included cases of possession of an unlicensed firearm, attempted murder and murder, as well as the search for suspects involved in the killing of the man.
He said the cases related to the murder of an unidentified man and the shooting of a woman, who had allegedly been shot by the man.
According to reports received, the deceased man reportedly shot the woman twice before he attempted to rape her.
Local community members heard the commotion and rushed to the victim’s rescue.
The situation escalated into an act of mob justice as they apprehended the suspect.
