BLOEMFONTEIN – A 35-year-old Bloemfontein man, Vuyani Cassius Ngcamani, facing multiple charges, including two counts of alleged attempted murder has been remanded in custody. The latest attempted murder cases involved his former lover (36) and her mother (65) following their brutal knife attack a week ago. He is set reappear before the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on for bail application on Monday, 3 August.
The accused is facing charges including housebreaking with the intent to commit a crime, attempted murder, and house robbery. His arrest on Sunday 26 July, in Bloemfontein, followed a full-scale police search after the brazen stabbing of the two victims, who were hospitalised with severe injuries.

Sgt Sinah Mpakane, provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that members of the Parkweg and Kopanong police tracked down Ngcamani at a local tavern. He allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend and her mother at their residence in Turflaagte at around 03:00 on 20 July. A manhunt was launched and photos of him were circulated on social media platforms. The police also had a warrant of arrest. Ngcamani was subsequently arrested.
Mpakane confirmed that Ngcamani was being sought in connection with three pending domestic violence cases relating to gender-based violence (GBV) – all involving the same former partner. Mpakane said the pending cases were opened in May this year.
Mpakane said on the latest attack of his former girlfriend and her mother the accused broke a window while the victims were asleep. He allegedly stabbed former lover multiple times, as well as her mother, when she tried to intervene.

Mpakane said that according to a preliminary investigation, the attack was further triggered by the opening of a domestic GBV case. “The victim reported that the suspect had accused her of ruining his life by opening a GBV case, for which he was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment.”
