BLOEMFONTEIN – The SAPS in Bloemfontein have cracked down on a wanted knife-wielding boyfriend, Vuyani Cassius Ngcamani (35), in connection with the latest alleged attempted murder of his former lover and her mother. His arrest yesterday -Sunday in Bloemfontein followed a full-scale police search after the brazen stabbing of the two victims, who were hospitalised with severe injuries.
Sergeant Sinah Mpakane, provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that the Parkweg and Kopanong police team tracked down the alleged knife attacker at a local tavern. The suspect allegedly stabbed his 36-year-old ex-girlfriend and her 65-year-old mother at their residence in Turflaagte at approximately 03:00 last Monday. Police immediately launched a manhunt, resulting in the arrest of the jilted lover. His photos were circulated on social media platforms. Police also had a warrant of arrest for the suspect.
Mpakane said the suspect, who was armed with a knife, broke a window while the victims were asleep, allegedly stabbing his former girlfriend multiple times and her mother when she tried to intervene. She said Ngcamani is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges including housebreaking with the intent to commit a crime, attempted murder and house robbery.
Mpakane said the suspect was being sought in connection with three pending domestic violence cases relating to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) — all involving the same former partner. Two cases are for intimidation with a knife and one for the theft of his former lover’s Corsa Lite motor vehicle. Mpakane said the cases were opened in May this year and that the victim had a protection order against the suspect.
Mpakane said that according to a preliminary investigation, the jilted lover’s horrific attack was further triggered by his ex-girlfriend opening a domestic GBV case against him. “The victim reported that the suspect accused her of ruining his life by opening a GBV case, for which he was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment,” Mpakane explained.
