BLOEMFONTEIN – Out of more than 1 000 entries nationwide, three of the four national winners chosen to voice a character on the international series Regular Show are from Bloemfontein.

The local winners – Danielle Grobler (17), Timna Dlikilili (22), and Bongani Macs Mantshiyane (30) – recently travelled to a professional studio in Johannesburg to record a 60-second clip of the character Rigby in Afrikaans, isiXhosa, and Sesotho. Their voices will soon be broadcast on DStv channel 301.

After a nationwide search that saw Cartoon Network Africa’s travelling dubbing booth pop up in Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and Durban, four super-fans have been selected as the winners of the Regular Show dubbing competition. Their winning 60-second Rigby clips have now been taken into a professional recording studio and are on their way to airing on the Cartoon Network Africa channel, a chance to see themselves on a fan-favourite kids’ channel.

More than 1 000 fans visited the booths between May and June, with 354 official entries submitted across Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, and Sesotho. Entries were judged on how well they captured Rigby’s chaotic energy, used their chosen language naturally, articulated clearly, and delivered that all-important entertainment “wow” factor.

The competition continues Cartoon Network Africa’s celebration of South African languages as part of its ongoing “CN Your Way” campaign, which brings more local voices into its programming. It follows last year’s launch of isiZulu-dubbed versions of fan-favourite series including The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball and Teen Titans Go!

As their prize, the winners were invited to EarCandy, a professional dubbing studio in Johannesburg, for a session to re-record their clips and add their own voices and languages to the Regular Show universe.

The dubbed scene comes from “Eggs-cellent”, an episode with its own chaotic backstory. After Standards and Practices rejected the original version, creator J.G. Quintel reworked the story, and it ultimately went on to win an Emmy Award. Now, the four South African winners have added their own local-language spin to a scene with standout Regular Show history behind it.
