The Worcester Hospital recently welcomed its new Chief Executive Officer, Sorina Jaftha.
Jaftha is no stranger to the hospital as she has been part of the management team since in 2015 as the assistant manager for pharmaceutical services.
The Department of Health and Wellness described Jaftha as a dedicated healthcare professional who has served this community with commitment for many years.
Jaftha has been at the hospital for eleven years. She describes her appointment as an honour that comes with significant responsibility. She has acted in the role of CEO on several occasions. In addition to being a qualified pharmacist, she holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Management.
She takes pride in this achievement, having completed her studies while balancing the demands of being a wife, mother, and full–time healthcare professional. She is a firm believer in continuous self–development.
Make a difference
“I want to make a difference and I have a strong conviction that you should use your gifts, talents and what others have poured into you. Leadership is an opportunity to serve, and by doing so, you glorify God. That is why I am here: to honour and serve,” she said.
She is supported by a strong management team, which is responsible for the day–to–day operations and service delivery.
Jaftha brings a broader perspective and is acutely aware of social challenges that place additional pressure on healthcare services, such as teen pregnancies, the growing number of children in foster care, and the persistent prevalence of gender–based violence. She believes that strengthening partnerships with key role–players is essential to creating healthier and more resilient communities.
“We genuinely want the best for the community. Our hearts are for the community. I realise that we must continue to build and strengthen the trust relationship with those we serve.”
“Surina has proven herself a resilient and collaborative leader over many years and we know she is perfectly positioned to make an immediate positive contribution,” said Acting Chief Director of Rural Health Services, Francois Van Der Watt.
