This past weekend Worcester Cricket Club (CC) gave Bredasdorp a run for their money when they gave a brilliant performance after defeating them in two separate matches.
On Saturday (7 March) Worcester hosted Bredasdorp at Esselen Park Stadium in Worcester.
After losing the toss Worcester was asked to bowl, a decision that would later be regretted.
Worcester’s Ashwin Lukas (3/27) and Christiaan Strydom (4/8) put up a dominant bowling display. Bredasdorp were eventually bowled out for 56.
The openers of Worcester made light work in their chase of the target and managed to get the total in 8.3 overs.
Worcester ended their innings on 62 for the loss of no wicket. Morné Scholtz (42* of 32 balls) and Brenden Henning (16 of 19 balls) were the opening batsmen. Worcester CC won by 10 wickets.
On Sunday (8 March) Worcester CC II played host to Bredasdorp CC II. The toss was won by Worcester CC II and the team elected to bat first.
Opening batsmen Mogammad Sedan and 16-year-old Cameron George gave the home team a steady start with a first wicket partnership of 70, before the wicket of Sedan fell.
Record partnership
Aubrey Erasmus joined Cameron George in the middle and together they put on a record partnership of 221 runs of 177 balls, peppering the bowlers of Bredasdorp to all parts of the ground.
Erasmus ended on 132 of 97 balls and George on 100 of 122 balls.
Another 16-year-old Alex Matthee (39*) and Dawie van Graan (26) closed the innings for Worcester CC II on 379/4 in 50 overs. In their response to the target ahead, Bredasdorp didn’t put up any fight as they were bowled our for a measly 17.
Erasmus, the pick of the bowlers, took 4 wickets for 4 runs. Worcester CC II won by 362 runs.
This coming Saturday (14 March) will be the final game of the season for Worcester CC when they play host to Hawston CC at Esselen Park Stadium.
On the same day the reserve team (Worcester CC) will travel to Hawston to face their reserve team.
On 21 March Worcester CC II will play in their T20 final against Hermanus and their final game of the season. – Enrico Claassen
