Breede Valley Municipality (BVM) has been announced as a finalist for the Public Sector of the Year category in the Nedbank Oliver Top Empowerment Awards, which rewards dedication to service delivery, innovation and community development.

Raymond Esau, Director of Strategic Support Services, has also been named a finalist in the Public Sector Leader of the Year category.

According to the municipality these awards provide a platform to reflect on hard work, innovation, and dedication to the B-BBEE codes of good practice as well as the significant impact and influence already achieved.

“For the past 24 years Topco’s Awards have set the benchmark for both public- and private-sector organisations seeking to demonstrate true leadership among their peers,” it said in a statement.

Municipal Manager David McThomas described Esau as a leader who not only guides but also inspires.

“His ability to navigate complex challenges strategically while motivating his team to achieve excellence is truly commendable. Under his stewardship the Strategic Support Services Directorate has become a benchmark of efficiency and innovation. He has cultivated a culture of collaboration and accountability, ensuring every team member feels empowered to contribute meaningfully toward our shared objectives.”

The winners will be announced at the prestigious awards ceremony on Thursday 31 July at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. It brings 700+ C-suite executives, government leaders and transformation champions from major firms such as Old Mutual, Sasol, Sanlam, Nestlé and Schneider Electric together.
