WELKOM: Six men were arrested and a Welkom woman was critically injured when police raided Rheederpark Ext. 2 on Thursday, 14 August.
The Welkom police confirmed the incident and that the victim was transported to hospital by EMS.
Members of the VOC3 combat team and BPC security conducted the disruptive operation in Phomolong (Rheederpark Ext. 2, or Skomplats as it is colloquially known).
Members of the Phomolong community and the suspects fought the police at the scene until one female was shot. Stones were thrown at police vehicles.
Members of the VOC3 combat team and BPC security had to escape and request backup so that they could assist the shot female at the scene.
EMS vehicles were escorted in and out of the scene. EMS vehicle registration number GHD 106 FS took the victim to hospital.




The suspects are:
David Mafa Letlala (37) is from Lesotho. He is charged with attacking police, crimen injuria, defeating the ends of justice, illegal immigration, and malicious damage to a police vehicle.
Motlalentoa Letlala (43) is from Lesotho. He is charged with attacking police, crimen injuria, and defeating the ends of justice.
Motlalepule Tshwaedi (31) is from Lesotho. He is charged with attacking police, crimen injuria, defeating the ends of justice, and illegal immigration.
Motolo Mokefane (62) is from Lesotho. He is charged with attacking police, crimen injuria, and defeating the ends of justice.
Lehlohonolo Ntalimeng (32) is from Lesotho. He is charged with attacking police, crimen injuria, and defeating the ends of justice.
Phallang Monyake (36) is from Lesotho. He is charged with attacking police, crimen injuria, and defeating the ends of justice.
On Friday, an angry crowd marched to the Welkom police station and laid a criminal charge against the South African Police Service, and a charge of attempted murder is being investigated.
