S.T.I.R. Weskus is a bold and exciting initiative designed to ignite high-school learners’ passion, develop their skills, and inspire the volgende generation of chefs along the West Coast. The programme also supports educational needs within the local community, making it a platform for real impact.

The driving forces behind S.T.I.R. Weskus are Lientjie Blok, Welmarie Coetzee, Anene Loubser, and Edmund Barkhuysen. With 23 years of professional culinary experience along the West Coast, competition organisers are delighted to have Chef Anene op board, bringing her authentic “from-the-heart” cooking style to the initiative. According to Loubser, there is a growing demand for trained and skilled culinary professionals, particularly along the West Coast. “Restaurants and venues are struggling to find young chefs who are properly trained and passionate about the craft. There is a clear need for skill development and hospitality exposure among our youth.”

S.T.I.R. Weskus is a high-energy competition aimed s at high-school learners, offering mentorship, prizes, and exposure that can fast-track a learner’s culinary journey toward becoming a qualified professional chef. Learners with a passion for food, flavour, and creativity have a unique opportunity to step into the fire and shine.

S.T.I.R. Weskus invites businesses passionate about youth development to partner as sponsors. Sponsors can empower young talent by encouraging creativity, confidence, and career aspirations. Businesses can sponsor in a variety of ways, including financial contributions, product or ingredient donations, chef mentorship or training support, and prize sponsorship. This year’s competition will be hosted by Longacres Private School, with Weslander as media sponsor.
