The inaugural Over-35s Football Tournament on the West Coast, held in Saldanha Bay, proved to be a resounding success.
Hosted by Saldanha Bay Veterans, the two-day tournament took place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February and brought six experienced teams from across the province.
Participating teams included Saldanha Bay Veterans and Tabakbaai Legends from Saldanha, CBS Legends from Mossel Bay, Vredendal Legends, Velddrif Legends and LFA Legends from Cape Town.
According to the hosts the event drew large crowds from the local community, with spectators treated to competitive and entertaining football throughout the weekend. The final delivered plenty of excitement as LFA Legends from Cape Town clinched the title after defeating Saldanha Bay Veterans in a tense penalty shootout.
The organisers expressed their appreciation to all sponsors who contributed to making the tournament possible as well as to the management team of Saldanha Bay Veterans for their hard work and dedication in ensuring the event’s success.
Special thanks were also extended to the referees, spectators, the assistance of the military and all participating teams for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
Saldanha Bay Veterans will travel to Mossel Bay in March to compete in another over-35 tournament.
