Small businesses, co-operatives and entrepreneurs across South Africa are invited to enter the 2026 Presidential MSME and Co-operatives Awards, with applications closing on 14 August.

The overall national winner stands a chance to receive R2 million, while each award category carries a prize value of

R1 million, with category winners receiving R500 000. The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD), in partnership with the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (Sedfa), has opened entries for the prestigious awards, which recognise outstanding micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), co-operatives and ecosystem partners that contribute to economic growth, job creation and inclusive development.

The competition will take place in three phases, starting with district-level pitching competitions. Eligible businesses and co-operatives from all local municipalities can submit online applications, after which successful entrants will pitch their businesses. District winners will advance to the provincial Premier’s Awards, with provincial winners progressing to the national finals.

Ten award categories are open, recognising excellence in sectors including agriculture, digital technology and manufacturing, as well as businesses owned by women, youth and persons with disabilities.

The awards aim to celebrate innovation, resilience and enterprise development while highlighting the important role small businesses and co-operatives play in South Africa’s economy. Applications close on 14 August and can be submitted via the official Presidential MSME and Co-operatives Awards website.
